The Malish
The Malish were the first intelligent species the Xanu encountered during their early exploration of the universe. Their society was strongly focused on community, mutual dependence and cooperation. The Xanu quickly discovered that the Malish home planet, Malu, was dying. At the same time, the planet turned out to be exceptionally rich in resources of great strategic value to the Xanu. From this emerged an agreement: the Xanu offered their advanced technology and knowledge to save Malu, in exchange for access to a portion of these resources. A period of intensive cooperation followed. Despite all efforts, Malu ultimately proved impossible to save. The ecological and energetic damage had progressed too far. To this day, many Malish consider the Xanu (co-)responsible for the downfall of their home world, despite the fact that the Xanu genuinely tried to help. From the Xanu perspective, everything within their capabilities was done. After the destruction of Malu, large groups of Malish were taken in on Xinesh. This migration, however, was troubled. In the early years, many Malish were treated as second-class citizens within Xanu society, leaving deep social and psychological scars. This history remains to this day an important source of tension, mistrust and cultural friction between both species.
